Accommodation

DDA were employed to undertake the detailed concept M&E design for the new PRS accommodation at 84 Kirkstall Road, Leeds.

84 Kirkstall Road is the latest development from the KMRE Group, comprising 111 apartments, a management suite, and small retail units close to Leeds City Centre and is perfectly placed for city living. The compact 0.6 acre brownfield site occupies a prime location along one of the major routes into Leeds, putting the development at the gateway to one of the most diverse and fastest growing city centres in the UK.

The individual 1,2 & 3 bedroom private rental sector (PRS) residential apartments have been configured over 10 stories to provide generously sized stylish accommodation, for long term private tenancies as part of the Leeds City Centre strategic approach.

This cleverly designed building follows the sculptural influences of Barbara Hepworth having an inner layer and an outer layer. The outer layer provides a reference to the surrounding building materials, and serves as a more defensive outer skin whilst the inner layer is softer, making use of lighter reflective materials  improving daylighting within the courtyard spaces. The material treatment mirrors the neighbouring student residential scheme, thus creating the overall Hepworth concept.

Squeezed into this sculptured concept, a reduction in carbon emissions is achieved by the provision of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit together with an integrated photovoltaics system. The gas CHP provides domestic hot water to the entire development. Overall these LZT technologies provide over a third of the site’s expected energy usage.
