DDA was engaged to undertake the complete building services design for a new Probation Office in line with the latest government requirements. This involved a detailed appraisal of the site infrastructure requirements and urban design objectives.

THE new Chorley Probation Office is part of a multi million pound investment for Chorley town centre providing new retail and public realm space in one of the access points to the heart of the town.

The £1.5 million office provides a new facility for its staff with

increased functionality in line with the strict government guideline criteria for Probation Office design requirements. The purpose built office manages energy and water consumption, features solar thermal panels and recycles hot water.

Other design features include safe and user friendly environments for clients and staff that are universal, inclusive, integrated and flexible. External lighting is controlled by daylight sensors and is designed to minimise light pollution and maximise security. Under the supervision of an ecologist, the planting is designed to enhance the species value of the site.

The building achieved a BREEAM rating of Excellent. As a tool to measure sustainable development, design and construction, BREEAM monitors a number of environmental issues from design to completion including energy and water use, materials impact, public transport proximity and waste.
