DDA Building Services Consulting Engineers were employed to undertake the fully coordinated construction design for the new build 1000m² health club at Battersea Circus West.
The new luxury health club project was delivered in 33 weeks within the logistically challenging £8 billion Battersea Power Station regeneration/ redevelopment scheme and a major value engineering exercise by the team successfully reduced the cost by c.20%.
Different areas within the health club were modelled after world-class spa facilities to re-create a highly tailored resort experience for residents. Zones have been carefully configured to promote a feeling of openness, with views linked through the spaces to make the most of the natural light. Customised artificial lighting in key circulation areas simulates the feeling of openness and improves orientation.
This boutique facility includes a fabulous level deck pool, spa, sauna, steam room, sensory shower, ‘chill out’ lounge area and high end changing facilities, state-of-the-art gym, studio and personal PT area, atmospheric treatment rooms and meeting/juice bar areas.
The 20m three lane pool sits at the heart of the complex creating a feeling of openness and a relaxation area to one side of the pool is flooded with natural light. The gym area provides a complete contrast, with exposed services and concrete surfaces reverting back to the industrial origins of Battersea Power Station.
Spaces are separately controlled to ensure the unique requirements of each are reflected. Control systems are capable of wide variation and react swiftly to different demands. All are acoustically damped so as not to interfere with quiet uses.
