DDA were employed directly by Tolent Construction to carry out the design verification and peer review of the services construction design, and to provide further buildability details. Further along, our role included site auditing and witness testing of the M&E commissioning at The Edge in Leeds.

IconInc is the new luxury student accommodation brand launched by the huge Leeds-based Parklane Group. DDA were proud to be part of the team working on the first development under this marque, The Edge, which has received widespread media coverage for offering ‘7 star student accommodation’.

The Edge offers high-spec student apartments with all the luxury extras of a boutique hotel and aims to fill the demand for a superior standard of accommodation, particularly noticeable among international students. Leeds has three different universities, so there has always been huge demand for student facilities which are innovative, distinctive and forward thinking. 

The Edge is made up of 131 high-spec apartments over 8 floors covering 5,500m2. It offers residents unrivalled facilities including a private cinema, gym, multi-player gaming zone, lounge area, pool room, study zones, and outdoor terraces. The developers felt that it was important to not just create a building for students to live in but to design a brand where core values are integral to the building and are instantly recognisable. This has been achieved through the use of striking wall graphics, slick design and bespoke furniture and fittings.

The brief has been to understand how students, technology and spaces integrate and interact to create a community, whilst taking in to account how IconIncdelivers safe and secure spaces.
